No. OG instruction benefits any student struggling with reading, spelling, or phonics — whether or not they have a formal diagnosis. Many families start without one and see significant progress.
Classroom instruction moves quickly and covers many students at once. Barton is 1-on-1, slows down, fills foundational gaps, and teaches the rules of the English language explicitly — nothing is assumed or skipped.
Barton is an intensive intervention and requires a minimum of twice per week to be effective. Our tutors work with you to find a consistent schedule that fits your family.
It varies by student. Because we're mastery-based, we don't rush — but students who work consistently typically move through levels within a few months and build meaningful, lasting skills along the way.
All Hammond Bell sessions are conducted online. Sessions are fully live, interactive, and multisensory — not video lectures. Students engage with digital tools that mirror hands-on tile work and are student-led throughout.
Some students need to build foundational phonemic awareness before starting Barton. In those cases, we use Foundations in Sounds, a pre-reading program that prepares students for Barton instruction.
