A different kind of math help.
Dyscalculia is one of the most common learning differences, and it needs instruction that works with how a child processes numbers and quantity.
At Hammond Bell, we provide structured, one-on-one online tutoring built on multisensory math instruction and the concrete-representational-abstract approach. Our method is evidence-based, individualized, and designed to build lasting number sense, not short-term tricks that fall apart on the next test.

Signs of Dyscalculia to Watch For
Early identification makes a meaningful difference. Parents and teachers often notice these before a formal evaluation.
Difficulty connecting a number to the quantity it represents
Counting on fingers for basic facts well past the typical age
Trouble recalling math facts, even after lots of practice
Losing track of the steps in a multi-step problem
Confusing math symbols or struggling with place value
Difficulty with time, money, estimating, or measurement
Math anxiety, or growing frustration and avoidance around math

Understanding dyscalculia, in depth.
What is dyscalculia? Dyscalculia is a learning difference that affects number sense, math fact recall, and reasoning with quantities. It is neurological in origin, meaning it reflects how the brain is wired, not a student's effort or intelligence. Many students with dyscalculia show strong reasoning and language skills in other areas once the right math support is in place. It affects the ability to understand and work with numbers fluently. Without explicit, structured instruction, students often keep struggling no matter how much they practice on their own.
Related profiles and co-occurrence. Dyscalculia commonly appears alongside dyslexia and ADHD. Some students have more than one learning difference at once, which is why instruction should start from a clear picture of the individual student rather than a single label.
Dyscalculia, IDEA, and Section 504. Dyscalculia is recognized as a specific learning disability in mathematics under IDEA and Section 504. Students may qualify for formal accommodations in school alongside outside math tutoring support.
Does dyscalculia affect reading? Dyscalculia primarily affects math, but the two areas can overlap. Word problems require reading, and dyscalculia and dyslexia often co-occur. When reading is also a concern, our reading and spelling tutoring can complement math intervention so a child gets support across both.
